Rajasthan Patrika group chairman Gulab Kothari wins Raja Ram Mohan Roy Award by PCI

The Press Council of India (PCI) has awarded this year’s Raja Ram Mohan Roy National Award for Excellence in Journalism to Rajasthan Patrika group chairman Gulab Kothari. The awards will be presented on the occasion of National Press Day on 16 November 2019.

The selection of awardees was carried out by a jury comprising of eminent members of PCI like Jai Shankar Gupta, Balwinder Singh and Ashok Upadhyaya among others.

About National Awards for Excellence in Journalism

The Awards have been instituted to recognize outstanding contribution of journalists or photo journalists of the country in print journalism.

The award is given in eight categories such as Raja Ram Mohan Roy National Award for Excellence in Journalism among others. It carries a cash prize and a citation for each category.

Only for the Raja Ram Mohan Roy award for excellence in journalism, the cash prize is worth Rs.1,00,000 and the jury committee itself decides the nominations for category and therefore no entries are invited.

These entire awards carry a citation and a cash prize of Rs.50000.

Gender Based Reporting category: Anuradha Mascarenhas, Indian Express Senior Editor and Ruby Sarkar of Deshbandhu are the joint winners

Rural Journalism category:  Sanjay Saini, Correspondent, Dainik Bhaskar, Mandi, and Raj Chengappa, Group Editorial Director, India Today, are the joint winners

Developmental Reporting category: Shiva Swarup Awasthi, Senior Reporter of Dainik Jagran, and Anu Abrahim, Sub-Editor of Matrubhumi, Calicut

Financial Reporting category: Sandeep Singh, Indian Express Associate Editor and Special Correspondent Krishn Kaushik

Photo Journalism-Single News Picture category: P G Unnikrishnan, Senior Photographer, The Mathrubhumi, and Akhil E S, News Photographer, Mathrubhumi

Photo Journalism-Photo Feature category: Sipra Das, Consulting Editor (Photography), India Empire Magazine and Parliamentarian Magazine

Sports Reporting category: Saurabh Duggal , Hindustan Times
